Rogare – and the Norwegians

Rogation Sunday. Rogare – Latin for  ” To ask”. Traditionally the day when prayers are said for God’s blessing on the crops.

Here’s a question for a Sunday morning – the age old question ( one of them at least!) Why ask God for something when, in his infinite wisdom, he must know that “N” needs healing and the crops in an African state need to flourish to keep people there alive?

Dont know if anyone prayed for the UK entry in the Eurovision Song Contest last night – but Jade and Lloyd Webber did well – fifth I think. I liked the songs where countires had a mix of their own cultural sounds ( like Moldavia) and modern pop – combining the best of the old with the new.  Not sure if the winners, Norway, did that – I think they won with the cute factor of their lead singer Alexander and his violin – maybe violins are a traditional part of Norway’s song making?

Off to church now – the guitar at Great paxton will do nicely – bit of modern and definately a bit of old there – 1,000 years of history listening!
