Keeping alive the rumour of God

Great that even bells can be recycled… church bells, that is.  Little Paxton Church hope to rehang their four old bells next year in a new frame and augment the peal to six by acquiring two second hand bells. Fortunately a wonderful organisation called the Keltek Trust finds redundant bells homes and they  have definately found us one bell – from the west country – that will match our peal. There is the strong possibility of another from the north of the country later in the year.

Keltek have a web-site which shows where bells are being re-homed – all very clever and worthwhile work.  ( http://www.keltek.org ) I love the sound of full circle ringing on a sunday morning – or any other time for that matter. Someone once said that the sound of bells helps ” to keep the rumour of God alive”

It’s good that so many churches are re-hanging bells and new people are learning to ring. When I was at Orton-on-theHill Church in Leicestershire,

( part of the Sheepy Group) the bells were re-hung and two more added – it has a thriving tower now with lots of  local and visiting ringers.

‘Fraid it isnt something that I would ever try, though. Id never remember when to pull the rope……
