Companions

Planted some lettuce seedlings today and alongside them nasturtiums  – I hope they like eachother  – I think they are meant to be companion plants – they get on and protect eachother from nasty horticultural pests.  Nasturtiums do rather well with even begign neglect and  also have unusual   leaves – try spraying them with water ( when you next get near a nasturtium) and you will see that the droplets just fall off with the leaf stone dry. Magic – the water does not perminate them at all.

” Put upon you the armour of light” wrote St Paul – he was so sure of his faith in Christ’s protective power that nothing he believed in all creation could ever separate us from the love of God. As the night time draws on and our fears can creep upon us, I rather like the idea of being like a nasturtian leaf.

But then again….. I wouldnt want to become immune to life’s darts and arrows – wounded healers still make a lot of sense to me.
