Digging myself a big hole….

Here is a very large trench being built in Diddington Churchyard to take away the sewage from the building – and the rather large dimensions are due to the guidelines of the Environment Agency who are pretty strict about these things. It did all look rather over the top to us this morning who, along with the architect and contractor met to look at progress. Once upon a time local people had a pretty free reign( rein?)  when it came to looking after their building but now the Diocesan Advisory Commitee, English Heritage  and often outside bodies have a big say in what can and cant be done. What may feel over the top and costly is done for good reason- least thats what I was telling myself and others this morning.

The size is dictated by the potential use – not by the realistic amount of use we shall get – here’s to a lot of flushing!

trench and diggerThere will be a full archeological watching brief carried out on Friday and afterwards the trench will be filled in neatly.

Hot work for the guys operating the JCB.
