Quiet Day at Little Gidding

Had a very pleasant quiet 6 hours at Little Gidding ( Ferrar House) today although I did find it a bit hard to keep cool.

Little Gidding lies north west of Huntingdon in remote and beautiful countryside and Ferrar House, a small retreat centre,  is a restored farmhouse with much history and charm. To find out about its history and what it can offer visitors, go to:

I decided to take some photos, write some verse and sketch a little as well as reading a book of Celtic prayers. Here are some photos:

window and reflection The reflection of light from stained glass in the tiny ” oratory” – the prayer room off the main church aisle. How well do we reflect God’s love in our every day living?

chapel altar The altar in the church – quiet apart from the hum of a bee or wasp playing. The altar rails, originally from here, were taken to Priestwood ( Prestwood) church in BUCKS by the Victorians who took a fancy to them, but have since been brought back.

And here is a prayer I came across:

Bless  to us , O God

The moon that is above us

The earth that is beneath us

Your friends who are around us

Your image deep within us.

Let us go in peace to cherish The Lord

in all things on earth.

In the name of Christ.

Amen.

Thanks to warden Catherine for a lovely day and to evrryone who looks after the Little Gidding Heritage.

And now for something different… a semi-final at Wimbledon with a UK player… Andy Murray v Andy Roddick tomorrow afternoon. I might just find time to watch it….

  1. What a suprise to see Lt. Gidding on the blog.
It just goes to show how close we can all be to something and, at the same time be totally unaware of it.
That must be a pretty good parody of our ‘earthly life’ juxtapositioned next to our ‘heavenly one’; that thin veil.
Now, I don’t want to give the impression that to meet me Paxtonvic would have been a spiritual occasion of a very high order, but, I was at Lt. Gidding yesterday as well.
Our spirits could have brushed each other with the delicacy of the gentle touch of a small birds feather; Ahhhh!
Get that Dog Collar on so theres no excuse for any confusion with Sharron Stone. Bon weekend, Wingy.
