Holy Communion 1815

1815 HC at the Abbey

Yes, this is a bit gloomy for Paxtonvic, but its a photo taken last week at St Albans Abbey of a picture in the permanent history display. Hope you can make out the theme – Holy Communion at the High Altar of the Abbey 1815.

There are a few sad looking folk sitting in the aisle – cant they get to the altar table? Have they already received? Are they barred due to bad behaviour? They look very much on the outside whilst others gather at the high altar.

Who do we exclude, unknowingly, from the table which Jesus invites us all to draw near to? I can still remember when divorced people couldnt receive communion -and thats not all that long ago.

” Come unto me all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest”
