Paxtonvic’s Blog

Just another weblog

Eels meet again, dont know where, dont know when

Not too sure that the stonework at St James with its unusal ” rope like” finish is meant to represent   eels – but here are Pam Dodman’s  memories of eel delights in St Neots:

“Many years ago St. Neots folk would have loved to have an Eel to cook for lunch.  The Great Ouse supplied most of these – I can remember my Grandma cooking an Eel in milk and having it for her lunch on many occasions – she would skin it first.  When I and my brothers went fishing we were always told to bring any Eels we caught back to her.”

Ur, think I will stick to fish fingers!

Wingy from Wimbotsham has kindly sent me fascinating photos of ornamental stonework on the church’s piscina  which if not eels are very unusual in design – but blog is taking a long time to load so I will finish now and post them tomorrow .

Its raining mightily here – and im wondering if all this rain will lead to the road flooding again soon between Little Paxton and St Neots. Will have to get that inflatable boat blown up ready!
