Man in a trench at Great Paxton

August 20th - Day 7 - Lance in the trench

Here is muscle man Lance hand digging the trench inGreat Paxton Churchyard which will discharge our sewage. Its tough work – and his mate Glenn has a ” watching brief” from his JCB cab:

August 20th - Day 7 - Glenn watching brief

Both are taking great care as they work in this ancient churchyard and we do appreicate their efforts.

Meanwhile, it should be early next week ( if not tomorrow) that Oxford Archeology come and take some photographs of the stones that have been found buried in the tower base. They are based in Barhill near Cambridge and as soon as they have photographed the tower base as it lies half excavated, Glenn and Lance can dig up the rest and see what secrets they reveal.

90 year old Bert Goodwin visited earlier in the week ( Bert grew up in the village) and reckons the mysterious large stone……

possible stoup from aomng the stones

could have been an ancient holy water stoup. Im not too sure about that – but we shall wait to see what the archeologists think. Certainly we have remains of a former part of the old church.

Heres a prayer to finish off the day

Ebb and flow

From the flowing of the tide

to its ebbing

From the waxing of life

To its waning

Of   your peace provide us

Of your light lead us

Of your goodness give us

of our grace grant us

of oyur power protect us

of your love lift us

and in your arms accept us

from the ebbing of the tide

to its flowing

from the waning of life

to its waxing

( This could be @  David Adam – not too sure)

Mum still very poorly and finds it hard to speak for long. This prayer tonight is for her and for all those who this night are frail and have a slender hold on life.
