Robbie Williams’ new single – Bodies – can anyone interpret the lyrics for me??

I was idly watching the X Factor last Sunday evening ( thats what you do after a hard day at the mill) and Robbie came on with his new single called “Bodies”.

Im not trying to be hip or get a lot of hits with this topic – but can anyone explian the lyrics? Are they pro or anti-Christian? Here they are ( edited) – after all, this is a family blog…

God gave me the sunshine
Then showed me my lifeline
I was told it was all mine
Then I got laid on a leyline
What a day, What a day…
And your Jesus really died for me
Then Jesus really tried for me

U.K. in entropy
I feel like it’s  **** me
Wanna feed off the energy
Love livin’ like a deity
One a day, One day
And your Jesus really died for me
I guess Jesus really tried for me

Bodies in the bodhi tree
Bodies making chemistry
Bodies are my family
Bodies in the way of me
Bodies in the cemetery
And that’s the way it’s gonna be

All we’ve ever wanted
Is to look good naked
Hope that someone can take it
God save me rejection
From my reflection
I want perfection

Praying for the rapture
Cause it’s strange and gettin stranger
And everything’s contagious
It’s a modern middle ages
All day, every day
And if Jesus really died for me
Then Jesus really tried for me

Bodies in the bodhi tree
Bodies making chemistry
Bodies are my family
Bodies in the way of me
Bodies in the cemetery
And that’s the way it’s gonna be

All we’ve ever wanted
Is to look good naked
Hope that someone can take it
God save me rejection
From my reflection
I want perfection

( most of it repeated again)

Strange stuff – but I wonder what youngsters make of it when they hear Jesus referred to?

All answers gratefully received in sentences I can understand…

  1. I’ve been trying to work that out too. It’s a bit surreal for me and I don’t know what to think. It was on the Terry Wogan show this morning and he said the same thing. He said perhaps that’s why he is retiring! Not sure if I’ll listen to Chris Evans when he takes over in January as I’ve been a TOG since I was at school (with a brief interlude for Derek Jameson) and have remained so since – though now I only listen after 8:30 but I still like the thought for the day spot at 09:15 if I’m still in traffic by then. So I’ll keep listening to Robbie’s new one and let you know if the penny drops.

  2. Hi – yes very strange but more likely to be about Robbie and his own problem with his ego than Jesus. Perhaps this is about growing loss of self confidence, and falling self esteem, and as he speaks about hearing that Jesus died for him he initially accepts it but doubt grows, because surely no one would die for someone so selfish and self obsessed.

Perhaps we should rejoice that Jesus was willing to die for all of us, including Robbie Williams.
