Working late in church

No, not me, but the workmen staying up late to get the woodwork finished at Little Paxton Church. I popped in just before 9.00pm and they were still there fixing doors onto our new vestry cupboards.

A little earlier I went in and actually climbed up the spiral staircase to the new ringers floor…. and here is a picture to prove it!

You can see the new trap door in the ringers floor which as yet has not had itsl cover fitted to make it safe. We hope it will arrive on Monday to complete the work.

Im overlooking the new balustrade. At the moment one of our old pews is standing infront of it, but it will be moved into a better postion before too long.

The clock is now back in but the electric mechanism which will turn the striking mechanism off late at night isnt in place yet…. I think it will be striking during the night until next Tuesday and hope that doesnt keep anyone awake! The bell which rings on the hour is our oldest orginal bell… it is a lovely gentle sound.

I guess those meeting over the Eurozone crisis will be up later than our carpenters!
